Q - I am planning to do BE in IT from Manipal University. However, I find that all universities and colleges are following their own syllabus for the same, also, there is BSc, BTech and BE degrees being awarded. Is this a mainstream branch. Is extensive computer programming and language also involved. I am comfortable with all other aspects of engineering except language programming. What will be the prospects for further study abroad - there is no Masters in Information technology (as a subject) anywhere. Please advise at the earliest.

Programming is not included in all the subjects of B.E. (IT). You will study a mix of computer fundamentals, concepts, database management, programming techniques, techniques related to IT, etc. A programming language is one of the subjects(C++ in Manipal University). Programming is essential and also main part of subjects like:
- Object Oriented Programming
- Data Structures
In DBMS, you will have to study query language.  Java is also included in the course curriculum.

If you try to understand programming techniques and work little hard, any language can become easy and these subjects will not be difficult to handle.

At Masters level, you have many specialisation areas in IT like software engineering, Information Systems, Distributed systems, Decision support and enterprise systems, Intelligent systems, Project Management. You can pursue masters degree in any specialisation area in abroad.
