- Gargi

To be an archaeologist, you must study history as one of your subjects. Choose history as one of your subjects for 10+2 level study and then complete BA degree in/with History/Archaeology. Alternatively, take science for 10+2 and then go for BA in/with History/Archaeology. However, students who have studied history at 10+2 level may get some advantage for admission in BA.
Also taking additional subjects like Geography, Chemistry, Anthropology, Geology, any ancient language(s) with History may prove helpful for better career prospects.
After graduation, you can apply for Masters in Archaeology. You can choose your area of specialisation and make a career in that field.
After getting masters degree, you can also apply for Post-Graduate Diploma in Archaeology programme of Institute of Archaeology(an academic unit of the Archaeological Survey of India).
